Are you predictable?
Do you do things the same day, the same way, at the same time?
I am. I think I became that was as a young stay-at-home mom trying to find some order and meaning to my day and had a day for everything.
Now I am a still young work outside the home mom, but I am still predictable. I go to the grocery store every Wednesday evening. Why Wednesday? Because I go to the cheapest grocery store around and so does every other young mom trying to save two pennies and every old couple trying to save a few as well. I hate to grocery shop when there are people there. It should just be me. Wednesday nights is pretty empty - ahhhhh! I don't even have to wait at the deli. As a matter of fact, Robert, the deli guy has come to know my turkey order. I always get 1 1/4 pound of sundried tomato turkey - yummy! Often times, they have to go in back to open a new one. But, Robert has taken it upon himself to always have it ready for me. So nice. I keep meaning to bake him cookies, but I forget. I will though, I promise.
Sometimes when I grocery shop I wear my ipod. Last week I did and I was listening to it as I was talking to Robert (I know it is rude, but I had one bud out of my ear and could hear fine). He asked what I was listening to and I said John Denver. He laughed and said "I didn't know those things could play that." (He is an older gentelmen).
This week, my turkey was ready and his co-worker asked where the John Denver was, LOL.
So, yes, I am predictable. I could go into a million ways, but that one will do it for now because it is 10 pm and almost my bedtime.

Finding Balance
Ahhhhhhhh, I worked in the yard today. It was finally a nice day, weather-wise, temp-wise. I went for a walk after school and discovered this. Came home and decided to rake the back yard. It basically looks like hay, but I raked it anyways. There was a lot of hay. My hands hurt. I know my back will hurt tomorrow, but today, right now, it looks good. It would look better green, but I will take it. I love my backyard. It is smallish, fenced in and sort of private. It is my little oasis with my perennial garden up on the hill.
I titled this finding balance because I am still finding it hard to balance working full time and being a mom/keeping a househould running. I am in my third year of teaching and this year is definitely easier. I made a pact not to bring my bookbag home unless I absolutely need to, so I can really leave my work at work. I can't remember the last time I brought it home. That is a good thing. All school stuff still gets done.
Then, I come home and I feel like the stay-at-home mom I was for 13 years. I love that life. I miss that life. I do still have that life all summer (love it!) and as spring is approaching I can feel the beginning of that flip flop life! But, with spring comes bringing me out of hibernation. My friend reminded me that I don't have to be Wonder Woman! I try to remind myself of this but I feel like if "I" don't do it, it won't get done. I do have a husband and 4 growing boys that could help me. But, alas, I really do enjoy working in the yard. It gives me pleasure to finally sit down on a nice day and enjoy it. I can't wait to plant new perennials!
So, I am finding balance by leaving work at work. Now, I need to work on sharing the household work load. I am starting to figure things out.
At least I get to do my foot bath tonight!

Out with the old, in with the new
I had an old blog I typed away on, then read Oprah's book pick: Eckhart Tolle's: A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, and I awoke!
It is a wonderful, freeing feeling. So, I needed a new blog.
Also, it is a glorious day. It was supposed to rain, but I woke up to a terrific spring day of blue skies, 70 degree weather, the kids playing outside, and the birds chirping. So, I am computing outside. I think I need to invite a sort of shade to attach to the computer screen so I can see better, but I will make due.
I chaperoned a post-prom party last night with my friend. I had to work from 11 pm to 5 am. Now, I am a person who needs my sleep and usually is in bed by 9:30. But, I planned accordingly, took a cat nap yesterday afternoon, then fell asleep watching tv last night until 10:30, woke up and was ready to go.
My friend just makes me laugh the whole night. We also teach at the school, so we know a lot of the kids. Our job: guard the gym door to make sure no one goes out and check sleeping bags to make sure they aren't doing anything inappropriate. Surprisingly, there wasn't any music, so we sang every song we could think of from Kermit's "Rainbow Connection" to "Mickey" to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". They had a lot of those blow up bouncing things, so we jumped, we jousted, we got temporary tattooes (one on the back of my neck and one on my lower back, hee hee), watched a hypnotist, and ate and ate. It was fun and went by fast.
Home at 5 am, slept until 1 pm. I normally can't sleep past 7 am, so this was a treat. And, alas, we are back to the beginning of my post, where I showered, opened all the windows, grabbed the computer, and joined the sunshine!
